Week Four: Feeling Social?

Looks like we are 1/4 of the way through the semester. . .perhaps time really does fly. I hope everyone has her TaskStream in order and has self-enrolled into the local TPEs and the TPAs (codes on the first journal entry). Sadly, there are a few of you who have not filled out the TaskStream signup survey on the blog, so you may not be able to request feedback for awhile :-(

You should also be working on your journals and newsletter. Hopefully, the intro letter, EdTechProfile, and the Scan are in your rear view mirror! Oh, yeah. . .I would also like everyone to use Twitter with the #ed422 hashtag or use Edmodo to ask any questions about the class or assignments. If you have a personal question or issue, feel free to use WebCT email. . .

This week. I hope to get deeper into TaskStream with you (while I also familiarize myself with the new interface ;-) We will also begin the social bookmarking assignment, which I think everyone will enjoy! And if time permits, we will take a closer look at the ISTE NETS!! I know, how can you all be sooo lucky.

Journal 3:
Last article from the current issue (Sep/Oct 09) of L&L: "Walk, Fly, or Teleport to Learning," by Maureen Brown Yoder. I wonder if any of you have ventured into Second Life? Yeah, I know, most of us are having enough trouble with our first lives ;-)

This week's Question: Who is your current favorite artist (painter, sculptor, etc.) or what is your favorite piece of art? Provide a link to the piece if possible. Can you name my favorite?

  1. my favorite artist would probably be Van Goh. I love the way he depicts his art through color and stroke technique. It almost seems like his paintings come directly from dreams =) here's a link to my most favorite painting: http://christineparkdesign.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/vangogh-starry_night_ballance1.jpg

  2. This is a hard question but I would have to say that currently my favorite artist is photographer Ansel Adams; he was the pioneer of his era. The image’s that he was able to create with the limited technology of his era is unbelievable. Truly beautiful what he was able to do with film. Here is a link to one of my favorite shot with the best black and white color contrast, enjoy. I can’t name your favorite because the link it not working :)

  3. I am not the biggest art guy. The closest thing to a favorite artist would be Carol Shelby. I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I owned an original Shelby Cobra. Check it out.

  5. My favorite artist is Ansel Adams. His work is incredible. My favorite photograph that he did was of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. For me, climbing Half Dome was a huge personal accomplishment and I hang Ansel Adam's photo of it in my home. Here is a link to that pic that I found. http://anseladams.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPRODID=1037

  6. I am a huge fan of all types of art, and I enjoy looking/studying different ones too. But if I have to choose a favorite, it has to be Leonardo da Vinci. I love not only his writings, but the drawings or inventions, painings, sculpture...it is all amazing. I don't have a website to display all of this works, but a simple google image search did the job:

  7. I have always been really into art... I almost majored in it and I still love to paint. The artist that has influenced me the most would probably be Picasso so I guess he would be my favorite. I really like his style and find that in my own work I incorporate small bits and pieces that I really liked from his work. Here is a piece by Picasso that I especially like.

  9. I don't really follow art and I don't know who my favourite artist would be. I like paintings of landscapes and of places that I have been, so I can see the different places from other peoples point of view. I think that childrens art is always funny, because they draw what they see, and it is always inventive so for the sake of this question I am going to have to say that my favourite artust is my little sister, Sophie. Her pictures always make me smile and they are always colourful! :)

  10. I like all types of art. Pablo Neruda , Frida Kahlo, Fernando Botero, Codices Aztecs, Mayans, Zapotecs. I also enjoy doing my own artistic stuff.

  11. My favorite artist would have to be Christian Lassen. I have liked his artwork since I was a little girl. He always painted incredible pictures using beach scenes, mainly focusing on sea life such as dolphins, whales, sea turtles, etc. I spend a lot of time downtown Laguna in summers and he has his own store there that is really popular and just awesome!

  12. I have always loved art but I have never had a specific artist who I would say was my favorite. I really like Andy Warhol, but he is a bit interesting! I have been to several art shows and I loved the one in La Jolla.

  13. My favorite artworks are my mother's watercolor paintings of places we've been or lived together, and also of studies in watercolor techniques and images she painted. They are infused with emotions, times and feelings that go beyond words, and give me a sense of centeredness amidst this crazy worlds of ours.
I am also very fond of Lucy Wang's Chinese watercolor artistry, especially her watercolor on silk depiction of musicians. Her "Goddess of Warrior" is a wonderful depiction of the strength of a woman in harmony with natural forces with beautiful color and movement in the painting. Her daughter is the model for most of her figure painting and also is a close friend of my daughter. Lucy's website url is http://www.lucywang.com/artworks.
Your painting depicted above is "Guernica" by Pablo Picasso, which depicts the ravages of wartime bombing of Spain by German and Italian forces, and was first shown at the World's Fair in Paris in 1937. Right now, it evokes images of the ravages of information and communication systems by modern technology - I'm hoping to change my mind on this one, though.

  14. Just a quick addendum. I happened to recognize "Guernica" as a Picasso painting, which I saw for the first time at the Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis years ago. Without the use of technology, I could not have so quickly dated the painting, nor did I remember that it was specifically about the bombing of Guernica, Spain by the Germans and Italians. So...that would be score "1" for Technology. Yeah!

  15. My favorite artist is Frida Kahlo, specifically her self portraits. They are so expressive, symbolic and honest. Some of her self portraits are graphic and intense, not even beautiful or aomething I would ever hang in my house because of the intensity, but they are still honest and express her world exactly as she saw it, and as it was. I think that is cool. Here is a link to "Frida by Kahlo", which is her life story in self portraits.

  16. I have never really followed any artists but I love photography. So many stories can be told by one photo. I love going through old photos of my grandparents throughout their lives. As many others have said I also enjoy Ansel Adams photography.

  17. There are so many good artist at the moment and in the past that it is hard to decide on one. This is a hard question for me. However I will have to say that art that relates to my own history, culture and tradition comes from Frida kahlo and Diego Rivera. I think that their art is beautiful heritage for the world
