Week Two: Did Tweety Bird Invent Twitter?

After a whirlwind first week, I hope that you are all settled into the new semester and somewhat excited about learning how to integrate technology into your liferooms = life + classroom (I admit, I have a little trouble separating my work and personal life. . .)

We will start off class by reviewing/visiting our blogs and discussing how to add pictures and how to comment on your peers' blogs. As of Monday evening, I only have about half the class's blog addresses. . .no big deal, we'll fix that tomorrow. Also, I will show you how to submit your edtechprofile (with the screen selection command on the Mac)

New Assignments: we'll discuss the Journal Article 1-5 assignment and the scan. . .I also want to discuss iGoogle, RSS, Twitter, Edmodo, and Photobooth. . .fun will be had by all, I promise ;-)

Journal 1: "e-Learning Programs Come in All Shapes and Sizes," by Coyle, Jones, and Pickle from the current issue of L&L

This week's Question: What is the best book you ever read for school? Explain.

  1. My favorite book in school(high school 11th grade)was "Catcher in the Rye." I vaguely remember why; but I could say it was not the usual boring book we read in school.

  2. My favorite book that I read in school, was also a play and is a also a West End Musical in London. It is a book called "Blood Brothers", and it is about the class divide in a working class area of a place called Liverpool and it really shows the difference between the different people who all live in the same area. I also like another book which I read which was also a play, called "A Grand Day Out". This is along the same lines although it shows the simple pleasures that a day trip can bring to a deprived child living in a poor area. So I like those books the best!

  3. The best book that I read in school was "They poured Fire on Us From the Sky", the true story of three lost boys from Sudan by Benson Deng, Alephonsion Deng and Benjamin Ajak. This book is so amazing, it tells the story of two brothers and their cousin who survive the genocide of Sudan's civil war and how they ended up living in San Diego.

  4. The best book that I read in school was "To Kill a Mockingbird." I loved it because my teacher let the class act out the court trial. This book was the first assigned book that I actually enjoyed reading. It is still one of my favorite books to this day. I have read it at least four times.

  5. The best book I've ever had to read for school would probably be james and the Giant peach in the 3rd grade for a book report. :/ i know, sad to say, but i'm not a big reader and I think that would be my closest choice next to the TWILIGHT saga! ^_^ although I know the TWILIGHT saga was not and will never be a requirement for school. James and the Giant peach was the ONLY book that gave me a rush of excitement compared to any other novel.

  6. im not a big reader... but I agree with Genna!!!!!!! TWILIGHT IS AMAZING! IM GONNA MARRY EDWARD.. But if we have to choose a book that we read for school it would have to be Tuesdays with Morrie... its a really sad book but it really made me think about life in general~

  7. I would have to say the best book I read in school was "To Kill a Mocking Bird." For some reason I really got into this one, and I really don't like to read. Outside of school I am going to have to agree with TWILIGHT!!!! Love it!

  9. I would say "The Namesake", I read it for a college critical thinking class and thought it was really interesting. I was never into reading in high school so I can't tell you the ones I studied then. But now I have a new love for a good book and I thought this was a great read.

  10. One book that held my attention was "Night" by Elie Wiesel. It is his account of the year he spent in a concentration camp when he was 15.

  11. This is such a hard decision since I love reading! I really liked "Frankenstein" which I read my senior year in high school. I also like "My brother Sam Is Dead" which I read in middle school. Harry Potter is one of my favorite series outside of class!

  12. I have had to read a lot of books for school...I don't think there is a complete number one in my mind. But the ones that pop in that are pretty much all tied are: "Hamlet" b/c it is just an amazing story, "Brave New World" b/c of the message it has behind it, "Joy Luck Club" b/c of the story of mother and daughters, "Saffron Sky" b/c it is about a woman who struggles between her life in America and Iran, and finally "Breath, Eyes, Memories" b/c it was such a compelling story of this girl growing into a woman. :)

  13. I guess you can't technically call it a book, because I think it was actually a pamphlet..but I had to read "The Communist Manifesto" for a history class and thought that was some very interesting reading..it's a perspective that we are not exposed to much in this country. That was refreshing. If I have to pick something that is a 'real book' I had to read for school I would have to say "Lord of the Flies" from middle school. That book also reflects an interesting perspective.

  14. The best book I've read for school is "Silver Cradle" by Julia Waugh. It presented a poignant picture of Mexican American folk traditions by presenting them as a glimpse into the lives and stories of real people in the San Antonio area. The sense of the past these people carried with them was very touching.

  16. My favorite book that I read for school is "Recovered Not Cured: A Journey Through Schizophrenia". This book is a awesome autobiography written by a guy with schizophrenia. It is interesting to see the things that he thought and experienced before he got help.

  17. The best book I read is "Call no Man a Master". This is a great book that is mixed with the history of Mexico. Yes it is a novel and I read it as an school assignment but it was good. I love it.
