Week 14: Is the End Really Near?

I hope everyone had a great Turkey Day. . .I spent the week driving around the state of Arizona. . .But it was a welcome break from the average. . .and I did get a weekend of snowboarding in @ Mammoth!!

I went to TaskStream today to review the NETS 1 narratives and there were a few of you who didn't have them posted. . .I had asked that that be completed the last week we met :-(

Tonight, I want to ensure you all feel comfortable navigating Google Earth. . .I will demo how to add a folder, put in a placemark and customize the image, and add a path. . .you will also save these projects as .kmz files to be submitted. We may have to upload the Kmz file to TaskStream and take a snapshot of our project for our blogs.
I also want to discuss the rest of your narratives for TaskStream and ensure that everyone understands what is left to complete.

I will finish all grading this week . . .iPromise ;-)

For next week, I expect that your TaskStream narratives are completed. I will take time in class to meet with each of you individually to check your TaskStream and then I will release you. If your narratives are not finished, that is what you will be doing in class. . .finish them and there is a great chance you can leave very early!!

This week's Question:
What is your favorite family (or other) tradition? It could be traditional (pun intended) or non-traditional. . .

  1. My husband's family always plays softball the morning of Thanksgiving. It's a fun activity that the whole family loves to participate in and it's a great way to work up our appetites!

  2. Christmas Eve is the big night for my family. Mom makes a huge spread, including homemade clam chowder. We stay up late eating and drinking. The wake up early rip through our presents and all fall asleep on the couch. My wife doesn't care for how that works so we don't do it with each other and our kids.

  3. My favorite family tradition would probably be our family gift exchange during New Year's eve. Since we don't celebrate Christmas, we do our gifts on new year's and it's actually pretty beneficial to the younger kids. Everyone pretty much above the age of 15 gets 1 gift while the kids pretty much get a gift from each family... you can guess how exciting New Year's was for me as a child. =)

  4. I think my favorite family tradition is during birthdays. Ever since I was little, each family member would get to have their special dinner, cake, and presents. It has been the same for every year for everyone...even my sister who has moved out and got married.

  5. My favorite tradition is going out to dinner with my family on Christmas Eve. Which is actually mine and my sisters birthday (we are exactly 5 years apart, not twins) we used to have a huge party at my parents with Santa and all but as we got older we started going out. We always go to the same restaurant. After we come home have cake, open BIRTHDAY presents, and have drinks. Then we all watch Christmas movies. Its the best!

  6. My favorite famile tradition is the gift exchange for Christmas. We each pick a name and shop for just that person. Its fun because they make a list before hand and we are able to spend more money on that person. I guess this is called secret santa :) Its also fun when we try and confuse people about who they have.

  8. My favorite family tradition as a kid was new years. Every year all the kids in our neighborhood would come over and we would order pizza and make hats and confetti out of newspaper, then at midnight we would throw confetti all over and wear our hats and run around the neighborhood banging pots and pans : )

  11. I guess I am a big Christmas Day type of person. Not for the presents but just because that is the only day my entire family gets together in one place. I remember running down the stairs as a kid to see what presents were under the tree. Now as an adult I bring my son to my parents house, just so we can all be together and exchange gifts early Christmas morning!

  12. I think that Christmas Eve with my friends is fun and then spending Christmas Day and Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) with my family. Traditon has built and on Christmas Eve we watch Polar Express as a family and then I go out with my friends, then we spend Christmas Day with our immediate family, and just spend the whole day in pyjamas! Then on Boxing Day with have all the family over to our place and we just spend time together and remember how lucky we are to have everything that we do have! Also I like the family vacations which have become a tradition (for 4 weeks in the summer!!) :)

  15. I love Christmas because my family gets together and we share stories, blessings, food, love, gifts and lot of stuff. My mother and I usually prepare my favorite food which is Mole. Just to think about it makes me happy
