Week 12: If I Google Earth, Will it Google Me Back?

If you thought iMovie was cool (and you should because it is), wait until you see Google Earth. . .I really want you to play inside of the program to see how you might actually use in your classroom or your life!!

Today, you should be finishing up your iMovie projects. I am going to show you how to do a picture in picture effect that looks really awesome. You should have your checklists printed and ready to submit. . .

Also, I really want you to submit your first narrative for TPE 14. You should have looked over my suggestions and revised the narrative so that it is ready to submit. When you receive my thumbs up, I would like you to submit in TaskStream and request feedback on NETS I! (I would like this completed by tomorrow)

I will also go over some basics of Google Earth and discuss what I expect you to do for the project.

You should be finished with your wiki page and Excel crossword puzzle, and be fairly far into the journal articles 6-10!!

Remember that we are not having class next Tuesday - Furlough - so you should have more than enough time to catch up on any assignment that you have not completed. . .

This week's question:
If this class were pass/fail, would you try just as hard in your work? (you can be honest ;-)

  1. Honestly, I am a freak when it comes to my schoolwork and I am a perfectionist. So yes, I think I would try just as hard in my work

  2. I have taken several courses pass/fail and have always wound up with an "A" in those classes anyway. I think the pass/fail status takes pressure off students and often allows them to actually be more creative and learn more from the class than they otherwise would have learned. At this point, it really doesn't matter to me what the status of the class is, I would do the same amount of work.

  3. I agree with Kathleen. I think especially in eduction classes each person will have a different point of view and a different application of the information.

  4. I paid for this class and I definitely want to get something out of it so I would definitely try just as hard. I think Kathleen is right though--having it be pass/fail would take a lot of pressure off and allow for more creativity and experimentation.

  5. I have the pressure of passing this class and that only creates a lot of stress for me. I am enjoying a lot of the things we do in class and I am trying very hard to get familiar with the tools we use. At the same time I'm trying to incorporate much of my creativity and understanding of the assignments in each one of my projects.

  6. I wish this class was pass fail. There are so many projects in this class, and having it pass/fail would most definitely take some pressure off of me!

  7. I would still try because I really enjoy the creative aspect of this course. I would want the A, because that is always my goal in classes.

  8. I would definitely still try my best regardless if pass/fail or not. I think I would get the same grade in the class if it was pass/fail or for a letter grade.

  9. I would say probably not...I would still complete all the projects and would put in effort but would I stress out about the details and spend an extra hour on projects trying to make them the best that they can be...probably not. I think that giving letter grades sets students apart, I think that students should get recognized for the level of work they complete. Pass/fail grading in my opinion does not do this, students doing different levels of work all receive the same score of pass or fail.

  10. I would try just hard if this was a pass or fail class. I also agree that it would take some pressure off of students.

  11. I don't think it would make any difference to me, I would always try my best no matter what. I would just stick to the deadlines more maybe ... :) Grades don't matter to me and individual grades especially don't it's what I get altogether at the end that counts! :) At home you either pass or you fail at the end of the year with everything combined, so I am use to just doing my work and then seeing what happens, I don't even track my grades throughout the year!
As my grandma always says "Things happen for a reason" ... :)

  12. I think it all depends on the class. If I was in a class that seemed to be pretty easy and i was doing pass or fail, I would probably not try as hard. When you know you need to achieve a certain grade it makes me try harder. The thing about pass or fail is even if you barely get a passing grade, they don't know, so why would most people try too hard?

  14. I would like to say I would try hard but you never know. I like to push myself but working towards a goal always helps.

  15. I would try. It is very self rewarding to know I did the best I could.

  16. I think I would try my hardest still. Maybe not as much as I am now so I could spend more time on other classes, but still do everything I can.
